Bitches

The fact is no one likes bitches. The worst part of facing that reality is everyone universally hates stupid bitches.

As we all know people in the medical profession have crazy hours, being a nurse in an understaffed, overcapacity hospital tops crazy in any type of working hours. Its hellish when you have these 12 hour shifts and still you get only 2 days off a week. Not complaining about the hours or the compensation though the main issue here is camaraderie. After working a 12 hour shift a decent deliver would be doing what the precedent was not able to. I would have done it but apparently being certified to the second power gives you free rights to boss everyone around. I hope whoever is reading this would be able to be more compassionate to the plight of your overworked co-worker i totally understand that everyone is over worked and all but pun-lease! Have some decent courtesy to at least offer if you can do it for them!

Transparency of Plastics

One strange characteristic of plastic to the ability to be transparent yet though they look easily breakable, its actually one of the toughest materials in human kind. Looks can be deceiving.  I guess how they coined the adjective "plastics" for people.

In the workplace I don't really say that i'm perfect i'm really far off that point.. Nobody is perfect but at least you make an effort to try to be one. The shortest way that I see to be in the "I'm  trying to be perfect" level is to be always open to learning, new things or old.

I don't claim to understand how people learn universally but back in my school and in experience the very core of learning takes place via observation, especially in Nursing which at its core is a skills based profession. In my college days I would have never bothered a staff nurse and tell him/her to call me if anything is up with my patient on my clinical time i would be sticking to her like glue and trying to learn as much as i can. i'm very much aware of different kinds of learners but so far in the hospital in currently situated at the nursing students that pass our area gets sloppier and sloppier. So far i have observed the following characteristics all of which fall under the plastics category on my book.

1. the major suck ups; These are the students who try to be as close to the mentor of choice as they can. They get away with good grades without making a great effort, like actually doing the work. These people would try to be invited to all the occasions would bring random gifts would try to impress basically. These MSUs are most usually boys, in a profession dominated by females and working with mothers and babies (super female dominated), these man (good looking most of the time or really charming), do tend to suck up more than the female suckers.

2. the PTB: not pulmonary tuberculosis but the students who pretends to be busy. These people work in front but when the supervising person turns their back around… boom! they drop what they're supposed to be doing and go back to their own business. these people are a little more tolerable that the MSUs, for the simple reason that i find it really unfair that people would get higher grades because they are part of the big suck up leagues. Effort and dedication should be the basis!

3. the oldies: so far i've never been classmates with people who are way way older than me like 2 generations ahead old. So it really was an opening experience that these students would call me a 23 year old staff to teach them..Keeping in mind that these students are in their 40s 50s… so being naive me i thought i'd at least get some respect.. yeah right! these people would to what THEY want to work at.. namely nothing related to the patient they were supposed to be taking care of. The worst part is they tell you "Call me if anything needs to be done for the patient.." Hello?? am i the student here? you're the one that needs to learn something I work with these things everyday, i don't need to tell someone to do that work for me, it would be way faster to do it myself. I don't see washing bottles and pouring beast milk and sticking it in to the baby as work (especially if your baby nipples good and only has to drink 1 ml), doing the clean up would have been nice.. but no you have some other stuff to do.. like spectate and give lecture to your fellow students like you're so better than everyone even the staff.

4. the Lazies: No interest in learning at all. Imagine for 6 hours in the unit what they do is stare in front of the patient. that about sums up the whole work they did. Wow.

Anyway these are just my observations there would be others but so far students (bad ones) can be classified as such. Itdoesn't mean that i haven't met good students i have but the bad always tends to sick out more than the good.

For the record, i did study in the Philippines. I am from the Royal Pontifical University of Santo Tomas, one of the oldest schools in Asia where the National Hero of the Philippines took up medicine. Where during my time they only accept high graduates as students, no shifters or second coursers (you wouldn't be able to study there apparently). In short i studied and graduated in the top nursing school in the Philippines. I passed the philippine board and NCLEX with one take. I don't mean to brag but just so you know. (if ever you read this). I don't really care if your husband is a who in whatever, or if you're friends with my work mother/mentor, a good and honest worker will always be number 1 on my list. And you M. A. former patient of our unit would never be that, you are a pretentious plastic. I don't boast of my achievements i just want you to know learning is not all talk its 99% diligence 1% luck.  I feel sorry for you that you would look down on me because i graduated in the Philippines, but hello?  You don't need to graduate from a US school to be good, its just a mentality there are just some things that a lot of experiences would make you better than others and nursing is that. Being a good NICU nurse doesn't mean that you should have been a mom first. So hey i might be young, I might be single and childless but i'm already a staff nurse, i got my degree in a topnotch university, and every though i graduated from the Philippines, you're still under me. ^-^

Pesky People

There will come a point in time when you really had enough of the pesky people that bug you. :( I'm already at boiling point.. I just want a quiet life.. i don't need a suitor or boyfriend at the moment and even if i do contemplate to entertain anyone it surely will be the guy i like.. although in my experience the guys i like almost always don't like me back.. or if they do it never turns out well.. so i don't really like to have any emotional baggages at the moment.. I hope you understand that i'm not interested.. i don't like dancing cause it makes me feel all awkward and big and ungraceful.. i don't like going out if you have an agenda hidden at the back of your mind,, i don't have any intentions of going into a bachelor's residence without a person i really really trust with me. I'm very very conservative.. my values may not fit with yours but i know people who do have the same mentality and they will appreciate the very things that you snigger at. I hope you do find the girl that would make your happily ever after come true! I just want a friend. (super period).

now i just have to figure out how to say this to his face.

Being Rich

One of the absolute worst things I hate about people thinking that they're rich is that they are better off than everybody else. They think they are the alpha and the omega. They hang out with their own group and try to exclude everyone that is not part of their clique in short they are just blown out of proportions high school bullies set free into the world.

I would have saluted these people if they were genuinely good. But sadly in my experience they are the numero uno plastics. They greet you and ask about your life, your work but in reality its a ploy for them to break the ice and convince themselves that they are friendly and very open. In reality they come as trying to hard, feeling close, and the receiver of the greetings ends up feeling all around left out. They try to hand on to a specific status item. For example newest phone out in the market, whoever has this item holds the key to a good conversation. The people who don't have it don't have the right to join the conversation. This is just one example there are numerous other instances that you could think off. Houses, furniture, designer what nots. Think of all those and be fed up. My advice, try to paste on a pretty looks genuine but in reality plastic smile, keep to yourself and be silent unless put into spotlight of being directly addressed, don't answer questions in detail always be vague, pretend your having a good time and try not to roll your eyes when people start turning on their plastic modes. In the past I wouldn't have believed that they are such things such as social order within a group, but even in a small island it does happen. I pray someday that i will master these abilities but for now patience is what i have to learn.

Chinese New Year

Usually I'm the happiest person when it comes to family gatherings although as of late I hate it to the next level, because the very definition of family gathering has screwed up. Growing up the only family gathering that i know comprises of blood relatives that although some i can't tolerate i still respect them and don't hate them, home cooked meals, and plain old comfortable easy atmosphere. Now celebrations are with strangers, making small talk, being major plastic to everyone, pasting a fake smile, tolerating people you hate, almost none existent blood relatives.. screwed up right?

I hated my night.. It's Chinese New Year's eve and i'm venting out on my blog.. I hate this singular person in my life, he threatened to kill me, my mom and my grandpa. He's a clemptomainiac, nyphomaniac, total psycho. He is being forced to be factored in my life now. I hate him really from the bottom of my heart. If people only knew how bad this person is his whole life, they wouldn't judge my anger towards him. I have been blessed my God to forgive and forget easily, i really do forget however i do have my limits, like any human being. This person for 18 long years has been repeating countless of actions unimaginable to an underage kid and he has been getting away with everything. The only thing he knows is to be a parasite, a MAJOR parasite. The one that sucks your money bone dry. I wish that every adoptive parents would be blessed with a kind loving almost perfect kid, but sadly in reality it is not so. i'm so disillusioned with the concept of adoption. you never expect that you would be adopting such a trash of a kid when he/she grows older. and this person is that adopted and he feels that he his was better than everybody when in fact if you think about it he has the least list of accomplishments in the family. 18 years old with a high school degree and he hasn't even mastered basic math! doesn't even know how to spell. I made his english papers, projects and stuff and my little sister who is a year younger than him is tutoring him in math! So to the person/ people who have a lot of unnecessary comments about me.. You don't know how our life was, you haven't experienced it, you weren't there my mother was crying her guts out and saying that she was total failure because of this adoptive shit kid, you weren't there when my grandpa was so pissed mad because he brought a prostitute to screw around in my mother's bed, you weren't there when he was threatening to kill me and my mom, and especially you weren't there when my mom was having so harder a time in raising us because of shit kid. So Ms. Comments. you had no right at all to tell me that i should make amends to him, no right at all. You should kept your mouth shut. I feel that you're only blinded by money like so many other people here in the island, like so many of my uncle's friends. Yes my uncle is rich, but is the shit kid his heir? Is the business really my uncle's? If you knew what i knew, what i experience, you'll be singing a different tune. I may not be making sense at all right now because I'm so pissed mad the whole day but at least in some way i'm able to vent out my feelings. I really HATE nosy people!

Work... *Bow

It's been a long time since I last made my entry here. I'm now working as a neonatal nurse! ^-^ yey! It's my favorite nursing subject in college, my work would almost be perfect if only people stick to the ideal bubble you label as "co-workers" you have in your head. Since I can't seem to be able to tell anyone and all my friends and family are back in Manila and my work-mother wants me to practice typing perfectly and correctly, I'm going to vent out my findings in my blog :P
1.First off you have "The BOSS"

  • This person is someone that either everyone hates or loves. Mine apparently falls in one of those categories too. The boss has her moments, everyone does, especially for ladies we are hormonal creatures more so for the people who don't have children/ menopausal and is surrounded by people who have tons of children or very young and fertile. I'm not saying that the description is exclusive to my boss, but it can be applied to all the bosses that I've so far observed. They can either be very hard-working, pretend to be very hard working, or not be working at all. I'd have to commend those who pretend to be very hard working, pretending is really hard work. :P Anyway, the Boss can make your life in the workplace heaven or hell. Heaven is what I call the benefits of major suck-ups, they have the best schedules, the best work loads, the best vacation leaves, the easiest to get any sort of requests, these are just some of the few perks of being chums with the Boss. Hell the definition for the people who the Boss dislikes. These people have the worst schedule, they work like bat-shit-crazy folks, they don't get nice perks, they can't make requests that are reasonable. Sounds a little fictional, but my dear it happens. Trust my innoce in this sense is shattered.. totally.
2. The Co-Workers
  • These are the other people you work with either higher rank, same rank or lower rank than you. The higher rank or the seniors, they either hate you or like you. If you're lucky and the seniors like you, take your chance and learn as much as you can they are the best teachers because of experience, keep in mind though that they also sometimes make mistakes we are humans so accumulate whatever correct knowledge that could better your work/ practice. The same rank people, these people also either hate you or like you. In my case same rank people constitutes people near my age. Since I'm the newbie they've all grouped together and thus you are an outsider. Like any hierarchy in High school there is the Queen B- the biggest B**** of them all. Watch out for these people because usually they have major crab mentality, they pull you down, bash you behind your back, use insults to make you feel bad, tease you for your imperfections (like she's the perfect being of all). Try to ignore and cry at home.. NEVER show this B that she won, that is the B's greatest satisfaction. Oh by the way this person LOVES attention to the next level, stay clear away. The people who like you are divided into two parts usually they are part of the B's group or had been part of the group. Lets start first with the current up to date members of the group. These people usually are making friends with you because the B needs a mole/s to find stuff out (Bs are also very good spies) my advice.. Shut your mouth and keep you thoughts to your head or better yet follow my example and stick to blogging. They don't really like you, or if they do they can't because the B is WATCHING! Anyway the ex-groupie would entail that he/she had a bad encounter with the B and has never patch things up, this person is doing the same stuff as you being quiet and staying far away from the B's path and stupid mouth. Listen up if this person tells you about the experience. It's good tactical advice.
Well this is just some of the drama I encounter at work -.- it's crazy but I just try to remember that its work and i'm not there to make friends and if they treat me badly someday God, fate or destiny would get back at them. Always think of Yin-Yang for the small bad karma comes an even bigger karma.
Love Lots,
Kathy O.
